Diving around Muscat, Oman
Some might question why Muscat figures in the "around Dubai" section - it is still in Oman, right ?
Of course it is, but since Muscat is only around 4 hours drive from Dubai (+ whatever time it takes with the formalities at the border) it is really not that far. And since most nationalities can get a visa at the Hatta border (apparently, holders of EU passport who are NOT residents in the UAE dont even need a visa now - they only need an entry stamp in their passport - 01.08.06) we thought we would suggest divers from Dubai take a weekend trip to explore the nice diving on offer around Muscat.
Pictures: The below photos were all taken by Nino Zubovic on a dive trip to Daminyat and Fahal Islands. Nino is also known as Kruz on Scubaboard.com

As far as we can gather, there are two main staging points for diving in the area:
1) Al Sawadi Divers, Al Sawadi Beach Resort - north of Muscat
2) Oman Dive Center (ODC) - South of Muscat
3) Global-Scuba - Muscat
If anymore knows of any other options, please let us know.

Al Sawadi
This dive center organizes daily trips to the Daminyat Islands, which are a 30 to 45 minute boatride south-east of the resort. The group of Islands stretches 20 kilometers from the northernmost to the southernmost Island and offers excellent diving. There is a good chance of spotting Leopard Sharks, Turtles, large Stingrays, and big lobsters while diving here and snorkellers can enjoy themselves in the clear water around Dune Island (D8) where they may spot baby reefsharks.
Diving around the islands is neither deep nor particularly difficult, so novice divers should not find it difficult diving here. At the same time, the marine life is very nice, so the experienced diver will like it here too.. probably the best all round place to dive within a relatively short distance from Dubai.

Global Scuba
Global Scuba is based in Muscat in connection with the Majan Continental Hotel, and offer dive trips to the Daminyat and Fahal Islands. In coorperation with the hotel, Global Scuba offers "dive n' stay" packages with diving and accommodation.
More information on Global Scuba can be found here.
Information on the Majan hotel can be found here.
Oman Dive Center (ODC)
ODC is around 30 minutes drive south of Muscat (location map can be found here) and offers Diving and snorkeling trips as well as accommodation on site. ODC has been around for some time, but management has recently been taken over by Extra Divers, an international chain managing dive operations in several countries.
According to some of our members who have been to ODC recently, the place is very nice and very well run and the diving around there is good. Definetely worth taking a weekend trip to Oman and check out the ODC.
Information on the local diving can be found here.
